Hello. I’m Allysia, and among other things, I love to write. In my basement lives a substantial bin of old journals which I enjoy digging through to see what cringey nuggets I’ll find. Since 2015 I’ve moved my journaling to simple Word docs on the computer, which I print as a paperback as a gift to myself at the end of the year.
Writing is one of my favorite things to do in all of life, in no small part because I can carry it with me for any experience. I find most jobs and careers limiting, but if you write, you can do anything and write about it. You can explore the past, the future, the dark corners of your shadow side, cooking or time management or the nature of the mind, any of it. Writing comes along for the ride, and life is the best ride.
This website is called “Life the Story” because I’m interested in creating a full, interesting, all-in life – a life that would make a riveting story. I want to get personal and share bits of my life with you – the good and the bad and the ugly. And I want to study writing and story, posting ideas and insights I pick up along the way.
At the end of 2019, I was highly inspired by Scott Young’s book Ultralearning – especially the part where he gave himself an MIT education on computer science very quickly. I love the idea of creating a high-level literature curriculum for myself, something that I can follow instead of just “winging it” with my studies. This is something I’m keeping in mind as an idea for the future, though I’m keeping my studies casual for now.
If you’d like to keep in touch with what I’m up to, here’s what I’m working on now. You can also join my newsletter. And check out my personal website, which is a hub of all my projects and activities.
